After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”

John 6:66-69

Jesus had just finished teaching the people. He had some hard things to say, difficult things for people to understand, let alone accept. Jesus challenged the people so much, in fact, that many of his followers began turning away and abandoning him. It was then that Jesus looked to the small group of men who had followed him from the beginning and had stuck with him until now. He was direct and to the point. “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter spoke up for the group, proclaiming, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”

Peter’s confession is a wonderful example for all of us, and perfectly encapsulates the attitude of our hearts as we enter into worship: We have nowhere else to go, Lord, but to come to you! Your words alone give us life, and we have placed our trust in who you are and what you say, Lord Jesus!

May Peter’s confession describe the posture of our worship as we gather this week. We will sing, read Scripture, and pray to the Holy One who alone has the words of eternal life. For our families with youngsters we have childcare available throughout the service for ages 3 and under. We also feature a special Kids’ Time and activity bags during the service for all young worshipers. In this week’s sermon, Pastor Michael Mackens will begin a new series on fruitfulness, beginning with the foundation of studying the Word of God.

We hope you’ll join us in worship this week! You can prepare for gathered worship by finding a few moments to simply engage with the Scripture and songs for this week. Ask God to use our time together to draw you closer to Him, to build up His church, and to glorify Himself. This week’s song playlist can be found on Spotify and YouTube. Everything you need to know about our Sunday worship services can be found on our website.

See you soon!
